When people think of online basketball nowadays they could very well be talking about fantasy sports. You have to wonder whether some of the role players on those great Lakers teams of the 1980’s like Kurt Rambis and Byron Scott would be considered as valuable today with so much of the focus being on filling up the stat sheet the way online basketball forums like fantasy sports encourage their participants to do.
The same questions could be asked about many of the role players for the Boston Celtics that challenged Pat Riley, Magic Johnson and those LA Lakers during those NBA Championship Series. Bill Walton is a Hall of Famer, but he certainly did not stuff the stat sheet late in his career with the Boston Celtics. Walton would be considered a bad selection to have in an online basketball format like fantasy sports by some of the online basketball stat wonks that fantasy sports helps create. Unlike Walton, however a guy like Dennis Johnson who could fill it up quickly along with the fact that he could get numerous steals on the defensive end of the floor would probably be considered invaluable in an online basketball forum like fantasy sports.
Some players just compute well to the online basketball style and stat driven society that so many focus on, while other role players may be considered scrubs. Just enjoy the opportunity to participate in something like online basketball fantasy sports, but don’t expect to win all the time.
