Anyone serious about becoming successful at their chosen poker game knows that winning is based on how well poker strategy is implemented. An example of a general poker strategy that will help you make up the winning hand regardless of the poker game being played is knowing how to calculate the odds. However, a knowledge of specific strategy is also required. For example, playing the starting hands correctly in Omaha poker has more impact on the result of the game than it does in Texas Holdem. This knowledge of game specific strategy is what helps Omaha players beat Texas Holdem fans who are new to the Omaha game. The poker rules for both games are almost identical but the player who knows more about Omaha strategy will nearly always retain the upper hand.
